Liquid Liquid - Cavern (DJ Phantom's Let's Hear It For The B-Boy Remix)

Wonderful record.

DJ Phantom's mashed up version of Liquid Liquid's breaks classic 'Cavern' is a stone-cold party starter. 'Nuff said.

Psyche - Goodbye Horses (Radio Edit)

Goodbye Horses was originally released by female vocalist Q Lazzarus in 1988. The song found fame after being used for a particularly odd scene during the film 'Silence of the Lambs'.

This, relatively faithful, version is recorded by Canadian synth-pop band Psyche and has found some considerable popularity across the gothic clubs of europe. It's now getting a deserved reissue from Optimo Music (including the anthemic 'Prisoner To Desire') which brought the house down at their recent Fred Perry Subculture appearance.

JD Twitch explains: "‘Goodbye Horses’ by Q Lazzarus was one of the most popular songs and became an anthem at our weekly Optimo nights in Glasgow. It was only in the last year that I heard Psyche's version and fell head over heels for it. The idea started formulating to approach Psyche about putting it on a 12", and when I finally did, we struck up an instant rapport which resulted in me choosing four of my favourite tracks from their repertoire to comprise an EP I'm immensely proud to be releasing."

Curtis - How Can I Tell Her? (Disco Demands Edit)

This is an absolute peach of a track lifted straight from Glasgow dj Al Kent's monster 'Disco Demands' compilation, out now on BBE. Al Kent has re-edited it along with virtually all the tracks on what is a wondrous journey of discovery through the unknown Disco Halls of yesteryear. It's 5 CDs long for christ's sake!!

Check out a minimix by Al over at Spin.

DāM-FunK - A Prince Mix

If you could hand-pick any given modern muso to create a Prince mix then DāM-FunK would be top of the list. His credentials suit the task in hand, the man from LA is widely known as the 'Ambassador of Boogie Funk' and surely Prince is the founder(?). Thanks to Wax Poetic magazine for whom the mix was created, grab a copy of Issue 50.

1. Prince & the Revolution - 17 Days (original version)

UnknownmiX - The Siren (Losoul's Hot Edit)

The Siren was something of a dark wave classic before Playhouse's Losoul got his dirty disco fingers into it. Extended to seven minutes and EQ tweaked to perfection, this is a perfect example of a cold wave edit released several years before cold wave or edits were in vogue.

David Byrne - I Zimbra (Sessions at West 54th Street)

'I Zimbra' is one of our favourite Talking Heads tracks, though there's very few duds. Here's David Byrne's live version recorded at Sony's West 54th Street studios in New York on 13th October 1998. It's worth checking the rest of the set on Youtube for more of his incredible performance.

Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston - A Love From Outer Space (Live From Dirtytalk 4/2/2012)

We honestly can't get enough of this sound.

Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston are taking the sounds of their sub-120bmp club night 'A Love From Outer Space' on the road with some exhilarating results. Thankfully someone always seems to be on hand to record them and share them with the rest of the world - in this case the good people of Bristol's 'Dirtytalk'.

For those of you that know the night, it's business as usual, for those that don't - be prepared.

Welcome Stranger - Brolene

This record was released last year as part of the jaw-dropping 'Let's Get Lost' series of edits. Thomas Bullock, of Rub 'N' Tug and Map of Africa, takes Olivia Newton John's disco rework of Dolly Parton's country classic and adds just enough muscle to power dancefloors in the 21st century. Lovely rock-orientated disco.

The flip is a version of ZZ Tops's 'I Wanna Drive You Home' which is also worthy of a listen.

Sweet Exorcist - Testtwo

Bleep techno pioneers Sweet Exorcist were Richard H Kirk, of Cabaret Voltaire fame, and Richard Barratt. Their 'Clonks Coming' LP was the first album release on seminal electronic label Warp. 'Testtwo' is taken from the AA-side of their 1990 single 'Testone'.
